LOAVES & FISH SPRING FOOD DRIVE

LOAVES & FISH SPRING FOOD DRIVE

By Dan Philips

This Spring has certainly been one to remember (or forget) with virtually everything we do in this world affected by the Coronavirus. Our Community Ministries have become more vital than ever to many in our community and in the neighborhoods around FUMC.

Loaves & Fish has continued to serve our neighbors. However, our delivery methods have had to adapt to social distancing and gathering requirements. All of those we serve are now receiving“to-go” packaged items at the back door. Many have expressed their appreciation that we have been able to be there to meet their needs. In the past month, we have averaged over 150 guests each week.

In order to continue to meet those needs, we have scheduled an All Church Food Drive for April 27 through May 16 to restock our pantry with non-perishables foods. The way we do this will be a little different than we have done it in the past in order to be in compliance with social distancing and sanitation requirements.

Here is how it will work:
Supplies, on our list of needs, can be purchased at any grocery store. It doesn’t matter if it is one can or a case, it will be appreciated and distributed weekly to our neighbors in need. If you prefer to have us pick up your donation, we can do that and will work with your schedule to make it happen. To schedule a donation pickup please email Dan Philips at dphilips@fumcpeoria.org or leave a message at the church (309-673-3641).

Items needed
  • tuna
  • peanut butter
  • mac n’ cheese
  • canned soup and pasta
  • canned fruit
  • boxed meal mixes including pasta, potatoes, and muffin mixes
  • cereal
  • crackers.
(No green beans, please)

Donation drop-off dates
Wednesday, April 29, Wednesday, May 6, and Wednesday, May 13 from 9:30 AM - noon. Saturday, May 16

Drop items off at the side-door overhang off of Main Street from 9:00 AM - 11 AM.

Donation Location
Just pull into the church overhang off of Main Street, and we will unload your vehicle while you wait. Sit back while we unload, and know that you are making a difference in the lives of your neighbors.

Donation Alternative
If you do not want to go out and shop, cash donations will be accepted. We will do the shopping for you. Gift cards from Walmart, Target, or any of the grocery stores will also work.

Thank you for continuing to support Loaves & Fish and our neighbors who have great needs. We are all brothers and sisters in this world.  We are also children of a loving Father who wants us to help each other and to share the Love and Grace that He has so freely given us.
