Congregational Care Pastor

The First United Methodist Church in Peoria, Illinois is a growing downtown church looking for a part‐time individual to oversee and manage our Pastoral Care ministry.  This position requires some evening and weekend hours, involves a combination of hands‐on and oversight of volunteers.  We are looking for a self-motivated individual with at least a bachelor’s degree and 3 – 5 year of pastoral care experience. The right individual will have the gifts necessary to provide pastoral care and to recruit and train volunteers.  

REQUIRED SKILLS:  
  • Grief and crisis counseling.   
  • Able to train and equip volunteers for hospital and in home visitation. 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office for correspondence, tracking congregational care recipients and shut-ins, and help manage congregational care volunteers.

REQUIRED TASKS:
  • Make pastoral calls in the hospital two days per week.
  •  In rotation with the other clergy, be the pastor on call for after-hours and weekends.  
  • Give oversight to the Caring Hearts ministry, our lay led ministry of visitation and congregational care to the hospitalized and shut-ins.
  • Offer training to the Caring Hearts team.
  • Create and maintain a database of shut-ins for use by staff and the Caring Hearts Ministry.
  • Maintain the grieving database and send out Grief Share books quarterly to those who have lost loved ones. 
  • Follow up with families 2-4 weeks after a funeral.
  • See that a Grief Share class is offered annually or as needed and schedule a training for Grief Share facilitators.
  • Meet monthly with our Stephen Ministers and offer pastoral oversight.
  • Potentially conduct funerals as requested.
  • Be available to assist wherever needed when funerals are conducted at the church.
  • On occasion, be liturgist for the traditional worship service, and possibly fill the pulpit a couple of times a year, so people recognize you as part of the pastoral team.
 
SALARY RELATED:
This is a salaried position for 25 hours per week for 50 weeks per year. This position is an employee of the church; church pays match on social security/Medicare for compensation.

Director of Children and Family Ministries

REPORTS TO:  Directing Pastor

REPORTS TO:  Director of Discipleship

POSITION PURPOSE:  To make disciples of Jesus Christ through dynamic children and family ministries.

POSITION STATUS:  Full-Time, Exempt

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Undergraduate degree in relevant field; graduate degree strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of three years’ employment in children and family ministries or similar position preferred.
  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, necessary internet tools, and social media resources.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills in relating to congregational members and diverse community.
  • Strong skillset in planning specific programs and strategic direction for family and children’s ministries.
  • Professional experience in advanced teaching methodologies and faith based curricula for target ages.
  • Ability to effectively supervise others and demonstrate positive accountability to those in authority.
  • Effective use of ACS or related software to enhance personnel dimensions of ministry position.

POSITION ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute comprehensive ministry programs and outreach to children and families.
  • Procure quality curricula for children and families in Sunday school and other special programs.
  • Recruit and train-equip volunteer-servants in children and family ministries including annual Vacation Bible School, seasonal, and special events.
  • Prepare and manage annual budget including restricted funds relating to children and family ministries.
  • Identify all logistical and technology necessary to ensure effective ministry to children and families.
  • Create a viable, ongoing, volunteer-driven ministry to children at the ‘Alive’ worship service.
  • Provide full resources, guidance, and support for children and families within the Hispanic community.
  • Supervise and evaluate other staff involved in the delivery of children and family ministries.
  • Ensure all necessary information relative to children and family ministry is provided to Director of Communication for website, print, intra-church and community publicity.

POSITION ANCILLARY DUTIES:
  • Participate in regular team staff meetings and leadership in Sunday activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Production / AV Manager

Description
The First United Methodist Church in Peoria, Illinois is a growing downtown church looking for a part‐time individual to oversee and run our AV Team.  This position requires some evening and weekend hours, involves a combination of hands‐on and oversight for audio, video, lighting, and closed-circuit television.  We are looking for a self-­motivated individual with at least a bachelor’s degree or 3 to 5 years in‐field audio, video, lighting, and multimedia experience of an intermediate to advanced level.  The right individual will have the technical knowledge of how to troubleshoot and provide solutions and repairs, procure, and install equipment, has an ear for proper audio mixing, and will be able to recruit and train volunteers.  

Required Skills  
  • Audio – Digital & analog soundboards, design, and maintenance.   
  • Video – Editing, posting services to website, and collaborating in musical/theatrical productions. 
  • Lighting – Design, programming, and maintenance.  

Required Tasks  
  • Sound engineer in weekend services (three of four current services).  
  • Primary individual for weddings and funerals. 
  • Ability to organize, train, and coordinate volunteer technicians/engineers and project leaders.  
  • Reading and understanding schematic and technical manuals.  
  • Ability to work in a team and/or independent professional manner.  
  • Ability to operate equipment and integrated systems.  
  • Programming of control systems hardware and touch panel interface.  
  • Organize material and provide technical support to the staff.  
  • Ability to perform standard physical maintenance on audio cables, speakers, etc.  

Equipment in Use  
  • Audio: Allen and Heath, Shure wireless microphones, wireless hearing assistance/translation systems, and other sound boards (digital & analog).  
  • Multimedia: ProPresenter7 running on a Mac, touch screen switchers  (Digital signage – currently under Communications Director).  
  • Streaming platform: Boxcast and Wirecast.
  • Lighting: Various lighting boards, LED stage lights, various PARNels & ellipsoidals, and regular par cans.  

Salary Range  
This is a salaried position. 15 hours per week for 50 weeks per year. This position is an employee of the church; church pays match on social security/Medicare for compensation. Technician will receive first call on all weddings and funerals, which is paid as additional income.

Production / AV Assistant

Description
The First United Methodist Church in Peoria, Illinois is a growing downtown church looking for a part‐time individual to oversee and run our broadcast studio.  This position requires some evening and weekend hours, involves a combination of hands‐on and oversight abilities for audio and video for the on-line broadcast of our worship services and other events as needed.  We are looking for a self-­motivated individual with at least a bachelor’s degree or 3 to 5 years in‐field audio, video, and multimedia experience of an intermediate to advanced level.  The right individual will have an ear for proper audio mixing of live audio; be able to troubleshoot and provide solutions when equipment fails; and provide oversight and training for volunteers to run audio equipment.

Required Skills  
  • Audio – manage and maintain our on-line broadcast soundboards and manage a team of volunteers.  (Primary obligation)
  • Ability to oversee and train a bench of volunteers who can run sound with supervision.
  • Work in a team and/or independent professional manner.
