Director of Discipleship and Connectional Ministries

POSITION TITLE :  Director of Discipleship and Connectional Ministries    
   
POSITION PURPOSE:  To make disciples of Jesus Christ

POSITION STATUS:  Part-time, non-exempt

REPORTS TO:  Directing Pastor

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of associate degree in religious or related field of study. 
  • Minimum of  two years’ discipleship experience within a church setting preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills in relating to members and diverse communities.
  • Thorough understanding of the United Methodist Church and Wesleyan perspective.
  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, internet, and social media resources.

  • Commit to working in a close, supportive, positive manner with pastoral and lay staff.
           
POSITION ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Support, mentor, and encourage adult Sunday School class and small group leaders.
  • Direct leadership teams invite, equip, organize, appreciate, and spiritually support staff and lay persons who are called to use their gifts in ministry.
  • Evaluate and continually improve resource needs for growth in discipleship and education.
  • Provide leadership training and maintain existing growth groups.
  • Connect with Sunday school and small group leaders to learn who is involved, what material they frequently use, and the social makeup of each group.
  • Develop a system for members to welcome and glean pertinent information about guests in order to help connect them to life within the church.
  • Attend various worship services on a consistent basis to discern which style might best serve each newcomer’s needs.
  • Contact local missions and ministries with whom the church is connected on a regular basis to determine volunteer possibilities.
  • Maintain database system for tracking newcomers to the church and for offering connections with established disciples and church-life opportunities.
  • Collaborate with staff and lay leaders on connectional and volunteer needs.
  • Serve as liturgist for traditional worship service on routine basis.
